Can a chess computer have consciousness?

Can a chess computer know it plays chess?

To answer this question we must first recognize that we do not know what consciousness is. Our understanding of our existence is nearly zero. We do not know who we are, why we are here, where we are going.

But we do know chess.

But only because we invented it.

And now we have the audacity to question whether another creation of ours has the capability to understand that it does what we told it to do.

You see, we are not problem solvers.

No matter how much we like to think otherwise…

We are not here to provide answers.
